Band Bio:
The Dunn Project began in the basement of a house in the winter of
2000. Kevin and I were living together at the time and we started
jamming through a lot of previously written material that I had been
stock piling over the years. A few months later Jody joined the group
completing the trio.
I met Kevin through friends of the family years and years ago, but
didn’t become good friends until we worked together at a go-kart track.
This is also where I first met Jody. We worked together for a number of
years at the track. It was during that time that I was playing
saxophone and guitar with BYOB/Marty Sobb and the Mobb. I started
playing with ‘The Mobb’ in high school and played with them for several
years; we toured across Canada five times and opened for many great
Canadian bands including Tom Cochrane, April Wine, and Colin James. I
experienced and learned so much playing with the Mobb, but there came a
time when I needed to branch off and do my own thing; hence the
beginnings of the Dunn Project.
Kevin and Jody played for a few years in an original/cover rock band
called Bone Bag. This band played primarily in the Ottawa area in such
clubs as Barrymore’s and Maxwell’s. Jody also fronted an original band
– Bag of Hammers for a brief period during this time.
Together we played a few gigs as a blues band (The Poor House
Blues Band) with our musician friends. We always had a lot of fun
playing together and the three of us shared a similar love of music,
had similar musical influences, and a common idea about the type of
melodic Rock’N’Roll music we wanted to play.
Over the next few years we jammed as a trio as regularly as we could,
and eventually built up enough material to played a few gigs. We were
constantly writing and bringing new ideas to the group, and it came to
a point where we realized that we needed to record. We picked our nine
strongest songs and began laying down drum, bass, guitar, vocal, piano
and even some saxophone tracks. We recorded our first album at Raven
Street Studios with Marty Sobb engineering the album and Jason Jaknunas
mixing and mastering.
The album is a collection of the early music we started jamming. We are
all influenced by many styles of music: from classic rock, and heavy
metal, to soul and funk, to jazz and classical, and even country. We as
a band try and let all our influences shape our music.
